Auditing of Courses
|
UNIVERSITY REGISTRAR'S
POLICY MEMO NO. 9 | Effective Date:
April 2007 |
PURPOSE
This memorandum outlines the special procedures and policies under which auditing of courses is permitted.
1. GENERAL PROVISIONS
To audit a course, registered students and persons not registered must obtain written permission from the course instructor and from the department chairperson. Requests to audit a course may be submitted only after the end of the official registration period (Last Day for students to add a course or late register) when it has been determined that there is still space available in the class. This procedure applies to both semesters and summer sessions. Auditing of courses is permitted only in those courses which lend themselves to this practice - generally, lecture courses because they accommodate auditors more easily than other classes.
2. PARTICIPATION
Auditors do not write papers, take quizzes, and do not participate in class discussions unless otherwise directed by the course instructor.
3. RECORDS AND GRADES
Auditors will not be registered for courses, they do not appear on the instructor's class roll and may not request grades. No term report or transcript of record will be issued and no grades accepted by the University Registrar's Office.
4. FEE FOR AUDITING COURSES
Students officially registered for other courses in the same term may audit a course without paying a fee. Persons not registered for courses must pay a $20.00 fee (cash or check) to the University Cashier's Office and must file a copy of the receipt with the course instructor at the beginning of the term.
5. CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES
Students cannot audit courses in the Friday Center for Continuing Education (Classroom Studies, Carolina Courses Online, Self-paced Courses, or Tutorial Programs), or courses preparing the student for Credit By Exam.
