If you are claiming to be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes, then you must complete one or more forms that will provide us with the information needed to evaluate your claim. Important: Residence Application Filing Periods

- Your current residential classification is required to be changed if, since original establishment of your current classification, your state of legal residence has changed.
- Information on the Residence Status Committee
- Graduate students (through Graduate School admissions only) apply via online residency application for all residency applications.
- If you have lived in the state of North Carolina for three years or longer by the first day of classes of the term for which you are applying, complete the Short Residency Form. If additional information is needed, we will notify you by mail. The application should be filed with the admissions office through which you were last admitted.

- If you have lived in the state of North Carolina fewer than three years by the first day of classes of the term for which you are applying, complete the Long Residency Form. The application should be filed with the admissions office through which you were last admitted.

- If you are an employee of UNC or UNC Healthcare, you, your spouse, or dependent child may be eligible for Employee Tuition Benefits.
- If you are a married student, you may benefit from your spouse's duration of residence. Complete the "Spousal Supplemental Form".
- If you or your spouse are not US citizens, complete the Supplemental Form in addition to the Short or Long Residency Form.
- If you are a Military Applicant, Spouse or Dependent, you may be eligible for Military Tuition Benefits at UNC-Chapel Hill. Complete the form to gain consideration for these advantages.
- If you are a North Carolina teacher, you may qualify for the North Carolina Teachers' Tuition Benefit. Complete the form along with the Long Residency Form.
- If you are a related to an emergency worker who is disabled or deceased, you may qualify for the Tuition Waiver for Family of Deceased or Disabled Emergency Workers. Complete the form here.
