TRAINING SESSION OVERVIEW

FERPA TRAINING

What will I learn?

You will learn the basic provisions of FERPA, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. We will cover directory information, restrictions and requests for nondisclosure, and the types of information students can see. We will work through different scenarios in which you are called upon to furnish student data. The training course materials are available online.

How long does this session take?

Half an hour to an hour, depending on the level of discussion.

When is this session offered?

Every Monday, in conjunction with SIS Basics. Other times available by request.

SIS BASICS TRAINING

What Will I Learn?

You will learn the basic skills necessary to use SIS, including how to log on, how to navigate the screens, how to locate a student record, how to use the help function, and how to log off.

How long does this session take?

The SIS Basic Training session last approximately one hour.

When is this session offered?

Every Monday, in conjunction with FERPA training. Other times available by request.

GENERAL INQUIRY TRAINING

What will I learn?

You will learn how to use the basic student data screens on SIS-C, including how to locate information about student schedules, grades, transfer credit, enrollment status, eligibility, and degrees awarded.

How long does this session take?

The General Inquiry Training session last approximately one hour.

When is this session offered?

By request.

FACULTY/STAFF CENTRAL TRAINING

What will I learn?

You will learn how to log on to Faculty/Staff Central, how to use the resources there, and how to request additional services. We will also discuss Student Central and how it compares to Faculty/Staff Central.

How long does this session take?

Half an hour to an hour, depending on the level of discussion.

Then is this session offered?

By request.

COURSE SCHEDULING TRAINING

What will I learn?

You will learn the basics of course scheduling, including how to create a course section, how to update course enrollment, add footnotes, create a waitlist, request meeting days and time, request a classroom, and place restrictions, as well as how to delete a course.

How long does this session take?

Two hours.

When is this session offered?

Every Wednesday, depending on need. Other times available by request.

CROSSLISTING TRAINING

What Will I Learn?

You will learn how to crosslist a course, as both a sponsor and a nonsponsor, and how to delete a crosslisted course.

How long does this session take?

Two hours.

ASTRA BASICS

What will I learn?

This training session is intended for GU scheduling officers who will use Astra Schedule to maintain their course section data. You will learn the basic skills necessary to use Astra Schedule-including how to find and use the most common functions, such as modifying course sections and exporting data.

How long does this session take?

One and a half to two hours, depending on the level of discussion.

When is this session offered?

By request.

REGISTRATION TRAINING

What will I learn?

You will learn how to register a student for a class, how to handle registration restrictions and stops, how to drop a student from a class, and how to perform conditional drop/adds.

How long does this session take?

1 hour.

When is this session offered?

Every Friday, depending on need. Other times available by request.

ADVISOR ACCESS TRAINING

What will I learn?

You will learn how to locate student data on SIS-C and Faculty/Staff Central.

How long does this session take?

1 hour.

When is this session offered?

Every Friday, depending on need. Other times available by request.

RAM TRAINING

What Will I Learn?

You will learn how to locate and update student information on RAM.

How long does this session take?

1 hour.

When is this session offered?

By request.

GRADUATION COORDINATOR TRAINING

What will I learn?

You will learn how to enter a student as a degree candidate and how to update and delete student's candidacy.

How long does this session take?

1 hour.

When is this session offered?

Every Friday, depending on need. Other times available by request.

STOPS OFFICER TRAINING

What will I learn?

You will learn how to place a stop on a student's record and remove it.

How long does this session take?

Half an hour.

You will learn how to locate and update student data on SIS-C.
