Academic Data Support is a section in the Office of the University Registrar which addresses the growing demand for specific data and information about many different types of academic information. The Chancellor, General Administration, Provost, Institutional Research, and deans need access to historical data about students and courses in order to make decisions about campus priorities and direction.
In order to fullfil the above mentioned goals, a database is being built to contain a wide variety of student academic data and is called the Student Academic Information Datamart (SAID). The data mart contains historical information on student characteristics and demographics. It also contains extensive information about courses, enrollment in courses, degree and major information, and faculty information in regard to who is teaching the courses.
This section provides for the extraction and downloading of data, maintenance of the data in SAID, and assists users who need access to the data. We will produce user documentation to explain the contents of the database and provide reports and summaries of the data as necessary.
Reports are generated from SAID and mainframe files (mainframe extracts and the Student Information System ifself) using FOCUS and other fourth generation languages, such as SQL. We will provide advice in writing reports, assist staff in writing reports, and write programs for staff to run. The main customers will be the staff of Institutional Research and staff within the Office of the University Registrar who routinely receive requests for this type of information.
